Biography

Susan Guidry was elected District "A" Councilmember in March 2010.

A native of New Orleans, Susan Guidry is a graduate of Archbishop Chapelle High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary English Education from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and a Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School. Her professional career includes working as an attorney and community activist, as well as teaching English on the junior high and high school level.

As an attorney, Guidry fought for the rights of New Orleans entities after the flooding of Hurricane Katrina. She was a member of the litigation team that represented the Port of New Orleans and successfully settled the Port of New Orleans' suit against its insurers for Hurricane Katrina related damage to 22 miles of riverfront property.

Guidry is known as a citizen leader with an extensive record on crime at the community and neighborhood level. She served as the Chair of the Mid City Security District, on the board of the Bayou St. John Neighborhood Security Program, as Block Captain of the Mid-City Private Patrol and was the organizing member of the Mid-City Neighborhood Watch. Additionally, as President of the Parkview Neighborhood Association, Guidry organized a Block Captain System for the Parkview neighborhood.

For over 20 years, Guidry has worked tirelessly as a community activist. She was a member of the Bayou St. John Conservation Alliance Steering Committee, District 5 Neighborhood Recovery Steering Committee and the District "A" Neighborhood Presidents' Council.

Guidry is married to Hervin Guidry and they reside in the Parkview neighborhood located in District "A."
