Media Advisory: Agenda Highlights for Regular Council Meeting on May 24, 2018

What: Among the items to be heard at tomorrow's first regular meeting of the newly commissioned City Council:
  • The Council will consider two motions to address several concerns associated with short-term rentals (STRs) city-wide through the following:
    • Expanding the study of STR regulations to provide additional guidance for the City Planning Commission for the issuance of future STR licenses
    • Creating an Interim Zoning District in the Historic Core, Historic Urban and CBD zoning districts, which will prohibit the issuance of temporary and commercial STR licenses and the renewal of temporary STR licenses
    • Please note: The motions pertaining to STRs (M-18-194 and M-18-195) will NOT be heard prior to 1 p.m.
  • The Council will consider a motion to initiate an investigation into Entergy New Orleans relative to allegations of paid actors.
  • The Council will consider authorizing a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for an independent investigator to conduct all aspects of the Council's investigations into Entergy allegations.
    • Please note: The motions pertaining to Entergy investigations (M-18-196 and M-18-197) WILL be taken up prior to 1 p.m.
  • The Council will consider a resolution underscoring a letter dated May 10, 2018, that the City Council sent to the Sewerage and Water Board (S&WB) spelling out the Councilmembers' expectations for compliance with statutorily required quarterly reports and requiring the utility to provide a full accounting of the information during the June 2018 Public Works Committee Meeting.
    • Please note: The S&WB resolution (R-18-182) WILL be taken up prior to 1 p.m.
  • The Council will introduce a comprehensive sexual harassment policy ordinance by Councilmember-At-Large Helena Moreno to provide recourse for filing complaints, conducting investigations and reporting.
  • Additionally, the Council will consider approving its Emergency Preparedness Plan.
  • The Council will also receive three presentations as special orders of business from the Dyslexia Awareness Foundation on the debilitating but highly treatable disability, Councilmember Helena Moreno honoring the late Judge Clare Jupiter, and Jane Place Neighborhood Sustainability Initiative on the long-term impacts of STRs.
