Criminal Justice Committee to Hold Special Meeting to Address Issues Surrounding Orleans Parish Prison

The New Orleans City Council Criminal Justice Committee will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, to address the following issues surrounding Orleans Parish Prison:
The Criminal Justice Committee will go into executive session to discuss the ongoing litigation involving the Orleans Parish Prison (2:12-cv-00859-LMA-MBN Jones et al v. Gusman et al (La. E.D.); Case No. 15-6070 City of New Orleans v. Gusman (Orleans Civ. Dist. Ct.)
The Committee will receive presentations and testimony on the Orleans Parish Prison, including:
The new 1,438 "Phase II" building under construction;
The appropriate size and scope of the Orleans Parish Prison;
The City's proposed plan to retrofit the 4th floor of "Phase II;"
The OPSO's proposed plan to build an additional 750 bed "Phase III" facility.
The Committee will then receive public comment and input regarding these issues.
